How do I start my jouney?
Start with a FREE ”Try Archery” session.
If this is your first experience of the sport of Archery then why not come and try archery for free.
Normally held on the first Monday of the month, this is an opportunity to meet the club and ask any questions you may have about Colwyn Bowmen and the sport of Archery.
Session starts at 7.15pm and last up to an hour.
Colwyn Bowmen are affiliated to Archery GB, the National Governing Body of Archery in the UK. Archery GB hold our insurance and also organise competitions, coaching and the education for coaches and judges.
Introduction to Archery Course
Archery could be a dangerous sport if done incorrectly. Therefore, we have to provide a certain amount of training for new archers to ensure their safety and those around them. This is provided by trained coaches.
All equipment is provided, and everyone is insured during the sessions. Courses are delivered as group sessions.
Your course duration is 12 hours over 6 weeks of instruction on bow and range safety, shooting technique, equipment and meeting the club. Spaces on the courses are limited and you will need to book with us to secure a space.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable but “non-baggy” clothing for indoor activity and wear flat shoes. Long hair should be tied up and glasses can be worn.
If I enjoy my Introduction to Archery Course, what happens next?
At the end of the course, the club will normally invite you to join, at which time you would also become a member of Archery GB and the Welsh Archery Association (WAA). Archery GB provides the infrastructure for the sport, sends you a membership card that allows you to shoot almost anywhere in the world, and keeps you up to date through its magazine, ezine, website, and social media.
As with many sports, archery can be done with basic equipment. As you progress, you may find that tailoring your kit can help improve your technique and your shot. It’s up to you how technical you want to make it!
What equipment will I need if I want to take up archery after my beginners’ course?
Archery, like any other sport, can involve a large range of equipment and accessories. However, to get started all you really need are the basics: a bow, a string, some arrows, a bracer, finger tab, a quiver, a bow stand, a bow stringer and a target to shoot at.
After completion of your course you will need to join the club (Colwyn Bowmen), we don’t have an annual membership fee as we try to keep the costs to you as low as we can. However, we do collect a small subscription fee to keep the club ticking over, which you only pay when you attend.
By joining the Club and ArcheryGB you agree to abide by all rules and policies, Codes of Practice as published by ArcheryGB and available on their website.
